Exhibitions

Nasser AlYousif exhibited across Bahrain and the Gulf for five decades, from his first appearance in a Manama exhibition hall in 1956 to the international surveys of Gulf modernism now including his work. The selection below covers his solo exhibitions in full and a representative range of the group exhibitions.

Solo exhibitions

  • 1988 Zinc etchings, sponsored by Dar Al Ghad, Bahrain Car Parks Company Building, Manama. His first solo exhibition, following the printmaking workshop at the Asilah Cultural Forum in 1980.
  • 1998 Challenge One, Albareh Art Gallery, Manama. The first solo exhibition of new work made after the loss of his sight in 1992.
  • 2000 Retrospective Exhibition, Albareh Art Gallery, Manama.
  • 2003 Challenge Two, Albareh Art Gallery, Manama.
  • 2004 More Than Meets the Eye, Albareh Art Gallery, Manama. An exhibition of the late linoleum prints, cut entirely by touch.
  • 2017 SPOTLIGHT SERIES - Nasser AlYousif, Bin Matar House, Shaikh Ebrahim Bin Mohammed Al Khalifa Center for Culture and Research, Muharraq. A retrospective with an accompanying catalogue, an essay by Dr. Maha Azizeh Sultan, and a symposium chaired by Prof. Nada Shabout.

  • 1956 Inaugural exhibition of the Family of Art Amateurs, Uruba Club, Manama, alongside Ahmed Baqer, Karim Al Bosta, Ishaq Kooheji, Rashid Al Oraifi, Ussama Salah, Ahmed Al Sunni and Aziz Zubari.
  • 1957 Commercial and Agricultural Fair, Al Andalus Garden, Manama, showing Winter Night; opened by Shaikh Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, accompanied by Charles Belgrave.
  • 1967 Middle Eastern Art, organised by the House of Carreras, touring London, Paris, Rome, Cairo, Beirut, Amman and Baghdad.
  • 1969 Family of Bahraini Artists exhibition, Kuwait. In the same year, The Diver's Wedding appeared in full colour on the cover of Al-Arabi magazine, Kuwait.
  • 1972 First instalment of the Annual Fine Art Exhibition, Ministry of Information, Bahrain, recognising AlYousif among the country's top ten artists.
  • 1972-96 Annual National Day exhibition and the Annual Fine Art Exhibition, Bahrain National Museum, Manama, participated in every year.
  • 1980 Printmaking workshop and exhibition, Asilah Cultural Forum, Morocco; GCC exhibition, Qatar and Singapore.
  • 1981 GCC Cultural Week, Paris.
  • 1982 Joint exhibition on the invasion of Lebanon and the massacre at Sabra and Shatila, with Ebrahim Busaad, Alumni Club, Manama, October.
  • 1982 Exhibition of zinc engravings, Alumni Club, Manama, with Ebrahim Busaad, Abdulkarim Al Orrayed and Kamel Barakat.
  • 1984 International Biennial Exhibition of Arab Art, Cairo; first exhibition of Bahraini fine artists, Cultural Complex, Abu Dhabi.
  • 1985 GCC Cultural Week, Japan.
  • 1989 9th Norwegian International Print Triennial.
  • 2025 Redrawing the Boundaries: Art Movements and Collectives of the 20th Century Khaleej, Hayy Jameel, Jeddah, curated by Dr. Aisha Stoby.
